1. WEBSITE PROJECT MANAGER (Toronto)

Pink Triangle Press, the mission-driven publisher of the
Xtra community papers, seeks a Project Manager with commercial website (desktop and mobile) experience.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of a fully functional e-commerce website from project initiation, through requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing, and deployment through transition to operational support.
The Project Manager’s role is to plan, execute, and finalize the project according to business requirements, strict deadlines and budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver the project according to plan and budget. The Project Manager will also assist in defining the project’s objectives and overseeing quality control throughout the project’s life cycle.
Familiarity with technologies involved will be required. These include HTML, PHP, JavaScript, and evolving mobile website technologies.
Project Management Responsibilities:
- Define project scope, goals, timelines and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and key stakeholders.
- Define project and milestone success criteria and disseminate these to stakeholders throughout the project’s life cycle.
- Design and execute an overall project plan containing discrete project work packages and revise these as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
- Manage changing needs and requirements to minimize project risks while ensuring the needs of the business continue to be met, i.e. proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks, and devise contingency plans.
- Plan, schedule and track project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools and methodologies.
- Identify and manage project risks, dependencies and critical path.
- Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
- Manage project budget.
- Effectively communicate and manage project expectations with team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
- Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
- Hold regular status meetings with the project team and management.
- Keeps project team and project stakeholders well informed of changes and risks.
- Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
- Estimate the number and type of resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
- Identify resources required and assign individual responsibilities
- Manage overall resource loading.
- Assess the need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary during project life cycle.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
- Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
- Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
- Reviews deliverables prepared by team.
- Conduct project post mortem and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- Five plus years of project delivery experience, PMP certification preferred but not a must
- Project delivery background must include custom web-based application development with a focus on customer-facing applications, e.g., e-commerce, online marketing, social media and/or online subscription business models.
- Demonstrated command and practice of recognized project management methodology as applicable to a recognized web development methodology (e.g. Agile or SCRUM)
- A general and basic understanding of current web and mobile site technologies, database and system design, information architecture, UI design and website performance issues.
- Experience leading requirements gathering sessions, establishing task prioritization and enforcing that prioritization.
- Results driven, highly analytical, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Superior relationship management skills including the ability to resolve conflicts and to communicate difficult/sensitive information sensitively and tactfully.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities, i.e., flexible during times of change.
- Ability to read communication styles of team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines and backgrounds
- Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating.
- Ability to defuse tension among project team, should it arise.

With formal training or experience in print journalism, you want to be a news reporter, not just a writer. You're not afraid to tackle sensitive issues or ask hard questions, even within a small, tight-knit community.
A creative thinker, you have a natural “nose for news” and the ability to identify great story ideas that reflect the zeitgeist of Ottawa's gay and lesbian community. You are skilled at networking with community leaders to stay abreast of what's happening in organizations. Your superior writing and self-editing skills enable you to quickly turn around error-free copy. This is matched by your commitment to fairness and meticulous attention to detail and accuracy. A quick and thorough reporter, each day you will generate community news stories to be published on our website and for the monthly print edition. An avid user of social media, you understand how to harness its power to engage our communities.
To do this job you need excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving and control and follow-up skills. You must be an aggressive self-starter who gets things done. You're equally comfortable working alone as you are being a member of Xtra's team of collaborative journalists across the country. You can handle the pressures of a deadline-driven environment and still maintain a sense of humour.
You are computer savvy, have strong internet skills and are proficient enough with digital photography to capture good images and process them for posting online.

Editor
As Editor you will act as the primary shepherd of content for Daily Xtra. Ideally, you have previous experience as an online news editor (or webmaster) and are enthusiastic about using social media tools for both investigation and engagement. Associate Copy Editor (Part-time)
The Associate Copy Editor will support the Copy Editor to ensure that copy generated by our editorial team reaches its audience error-free. You have a freakishly keen eye for detail with the ability to spot errors amid huge volumes of text and can concentrate on the task at hand for extended periods. Social Media Agent
As Social Media Agent you will engage gay and lesbian people at home and around the world, introducing them to Daily Xtra, its communities, its contributors and their work. Xtra Ottawa needs an energetic, daily community blogger to focus on local community issues and happenings in the National Capital Region. We're looking for a great writer with ambition, fresh perspectives and a passion for the local community and culture. We are particularly interested in writers who have a unique personal writing style; this could mean funny, irreverent or political — but always with a commitment to fairness and accuracy.
You need to be creative, well-rounded and highly self-motivated. Being a community news junkie or voracious reader who likes to stay on top of daily happenings is an asset. You don't need to be a blogging expert, but you should understand blogs and know how to add links and photos to your text.
It's essential that you are familiar with Ottawa's gay and lesbian communities and their organizations; ideally, you are out and active, with a strong network of contacts.
Above-average writing skills are a necessity. An engaging, punchy writing style is ideal. You must be a good self-editor and generate error-free copy, and you need to be comfortable pitching ideas and meeting deadlines. Past blogging experience or formal training in journalism is a huge asset.

After more than eight years, Erik Faure is retiring from Xposed, so Xtra Ottawa is on the hunt for a friendly, avid shutterbug who wants to shoot the local social scene.
In addition to strong photographic and digital skills, you need to have a great rapport with people to cajole them into fun poses. You must also maintain attention to detail to ensure names and event facts are recorded error-free.
You will need to be out and active in Ottawa's wide-ranging social scene, from club events to cocktail fundraisers. Erik leaves big shoes to fill.
