On Dec 9, Galiano Island celebrated the life and legacy of Jane Rule.
Those who were close to her shared their memories of a great writer, activist, role model and friend.
"She lives on in all of us," said Jenny Jarvis, a friend of Rule. "She had a capacity to love people of any walk of life, any style and she was non-judgmental — an incredibly wonderful woman."
"She was one of the first women in Canada — in North America — who had the courage to say it's not only okay but great to be a lesbian," said Sylvie Beauregard, another friend.
