Tuesday Hotness - Kiki Comes Out

My little Kiki just turned into a man. If you didn't hear the news, Icky Martin came out yesterday via a message he posted on his website. And if you don't care, I don't blame you because I don't really care either. I don't mean to be a bitch, but the only bombas Ricky is dropping nowadays are probably directly related to his protein intake. Shit girl. Literally.

Still, I had a small crush on Kiki back in the early 2000s, when Hispanic panic hit pop music big time: Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Enrique Iglesias and, of course, La Martin.

So here's an Up Your Alley tribute to the man behind the man behind the singer who needs to release something good to re-kickstart his career (duet with Bear Force?)

Openly gay ... Ricky Martin.

And who could forget that beach day he spent with his brother? Note the anklet... which in my experience indicates a 100% chance of homosexuality.

You go, girl!

Fun post!! Great pics. Well my Latin American fb buds all say that the Catholic Church still holds some sway down there. But still - Rickey - finally! Not with a bang, but with a whimper :O)

Hispanic commentators are covering the major impact Ricky Martin's announcement is making in Latin America. From Blabbeando:

"Whether U.S. fags approve or not, Ricky is a prominent figure here, and more importantly, in Latino América. Ricky’s coming out makes it possible for young boys in countless homes to imagine themselves as something other than confused."

Ricky Martin's announcement is getting enthusiasm from Latinos and bored reactions from English speakers. Is this because the Spanish version of his coming-out statement is different from the English?

The Spanish version (probably the original) covers the same topics as the English, but the tone is different. The English version has two sentences that don't appear in the Spanish.

The Spanish version of some phrases, e.g. "esclavitud sexual infantil" is harder-hitting than the English translation, "child slavery".

Finally, the "money shot" sentence, in which Ricky Martin announces that he is gay, is very different. The English version, rather limply, says "I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man." The Spanish version says "Hoy ACEPTO MI HOMOSEXUALIDAD como un regalo que me da la vida": Today I ACCEPT MY HOMOSEXUALITY as a gift that gives me life (or, "as a gift that is giving me my life.")
