Watch: Toronto Centre federal all-candidates debate

Federal election candidates in Toronto Centre (most of them, anyway) participated in a debate at The 519 Community Centre on April 15.

Watch our archival video of the entire debate:

Watched "livestream" the519 All Cand Debate. Congrads to Jane Farrow for hosting a very firm & innovative and entertaining all Candidates debate--best I've seen in many years at 519. Funny though, as entertaining as it was, there was an air of unreality about it as Conservs not there & unfortunately they are a huge part of our reality in Canada now. So it was all Progressive and fun but actually a bit unreal.

Agree James, with no Conservative candidate to rile the crowd with their divisive message of hatred of our alleged gay “lifestyle”, we actually heard applause for what candidates and members of the community said to each. It was kind of like being in a-love in, just no sex but more an orgie of a healthy sharing of viewpoints from all in attendance.

Many were issues that I haven’t heard in five years of Conservative rule, so it was a rather wonderful experience if you ask me.

To add, kudos to female host of the debate, Jane Farrow, a former CBC announcer who was funny, knew how to connect with the candidates and the audience with impeccable timing, and most importantly knew how to move things along, as well as being accessible by travelling around the audience with a wireless microphone. This host knew how to maximize time so everyone could participate. Truly a brilliant job!

Unlike other candidates' meetings in Toronto, the meeting at The 519 is attended by very few undecided voters. Most of the participants are Liberal Party and NDP partisans. Both Rob Ford in the last municipal election and the Conservative candidate in this federal election rightly concluded that it's a waste of their time. They know they can skip the meeting because the Liberals and the New Democrats in the room aren't going to vote for them anyway. They know that the leftist gay elites on Church Street (Xtra, The 519 board of mismanagement, etc.) hate Conservatives, but that right-wing gays outside of the Church Street ghetto will vote for them anyway. Life is too short for anyone (including a Conservative candidate) to waste time with people who hate them.

Jack, I think your reference to haters is misplaced.

As you call it, 'the gay ghetto' at the Church Wellesley area aren't going to support a political philosophy who hates gays by dening them rights under the law - they conservative types are the reason a segment of our population is ghetto'ized.

Maybe gays living in other areas will vote conservative ... so what?

Yes, the neo-cons can get away with not showing up in the gay community, but lets remember many Conservative candidates don't show up for public meetings all across Canada ... cuz the Leader wants to control the voice of his party.

Hell, Fantino didn't show up in Vaughn was a most recent example in his by-election. His pay off? Funding for a new hospital there.

Canada has been a country since 1867. Since Canada was formed, the Liberal Party has been in power more often than the Conservative Party. To say that Conservatives are the reason that gay people like to live togethher in the Church Street area is absurd.

Sam, re: To say that Conservatives are the reason that gay people like to live together in the Church Street area is absurd.

===

I didn't say that, please don't be absurd.

And when you can adequately address the other issues raised in my previous post, I will clarify what you have mischaracterized.

Until then, I can only assume your a nutcase or conservative.

You can assume what you want. It's a free country. Happy Pride!

Unique but yet one of many stigmatism which will trapp anabolic steroid me is this really is will cause numerous detrimental side-effects. Numerous so named negative effects, are either course of action overblown or to flat out fake. We cannot really problem people that must use something which is a useful one to help individuals which were spending out with demobilizing diseases.
