Incident at Halifax gay bar leads to two arrests

Two men face robbery and assault charges after an incident at Halifax’s Menz Bar on early Tuesday morning.

The Herald reports that the incident stemmed from a verbal dispute with one of the bar's patrons.

From the Jan 19 police report:

"Just after midnight, a man was assaulted by two men in the washroom at the Menz Bar on Gottingen Street, Halifax. While still inside, the two suspects then robbed two male customers at knife point before robbing three additional people outside of the restaurant.

"The suspects fled the area on foot. Police were on scene within seconds and apprehended both suspects on Maitland Street. All stolen property was recovered. One man was taken to the hospital with non life threatening facial injuries. A 32-year-old man from Windsor and a 27-year-old Halifax man will appear in court today charged with five counts of robbery as well as assault and weapons related offences.

The Herald reports that the case has been adjourned to today.
