Women's World Cup 2011

This year, the Women's World Cup of soccer is in Germany. The opening game will take place in the beautiful and culturally rich city of Berlin and will see Germany taking on Canada.

This Canadian team is very strong and is coming off two tournament wins in international competition. Look for their best results yet, and watch for Laval native Amélia Pietrangelo, who, at 17, has a long, promising career ahead of her. For more details check out the FIFA website.

Montreal derby: Skids sweep Quad City

Montreal's travelling roller derby team, the New Skids on the Block, was hard at work this past weekend at the Hangar in Toronto participating in:

The Skids kicked some major ASS, beating Toronto's CN Power 284-21 and Ottawa's Vixens 320-23! Look for your favourite roller girls LIVE in action when they host the Beast of the East tournament, April 30-May 1 at Aréna St-Louis. Also, look for player profiles in the week preceding the Beast.

Montreal Roller Derby Bootcamp off to a bang! and a wham!

Jessy's an internet friend of mine, someone I've known since we started following each other on Twitter last year, (follow me @linamariepony). Both avid Derby fans (and homos!) I got some skates, but Jessy is the one who made it to the Bootcamp in the end. I had a time constraint but I am going to learn how to skate first, also. Anyway, Jessy's got a derby n00b blog! If you've ever wanted to get the inside on what REALLY goes on at Bootcamp, check her blog. It's painfully detailed, but I like that.
