Glam no more

As of next Sunday, Glam Gam Productions is no more. Forget the Box has a wicked awesome write-up on their latest show, Tits the Season. Check their show, LAST EVER, on Dec 9, 10 and 11.

If I could throw my hat in the ring for a quick sec, I gotta say I'll miss them. They were a rare mix of artistic integrity, audaciousness and total fucking folly. I love it when people can REMEMBER LAUGHTER. Fuck high-brow: these kids would go into the woods, looking all wood thug-like, and take pics of themselves with neon accoutrements hanging from various parts of their bodies. This is art my friends. Anyway.

Julie from the trio of nipple triple threats had this to say about the parting...

"We have decided to stop producing shows in order to pursue other projects right now. Michael has decided to follow his childhood dream and move to Ottawa to pursue a career in real estate. Sarah and myself have decided to follow him there and join the Conservative party," she said in a serious interview, in all seriousness.

"But seriously," Julie adds, "we just need time to focus on other artistic projects, work on videos and apply for artist grants."

Thanks to midnightpoutine.ca for the pic.

RIP, Glam Gam.

Location:Café Cleopatre
Time: Thursday, August 5, 2010, 19:00

perverscite.org

Here's a message from Julie, the organizer:

Hello DIY wig peeps!
I just wanted to give you the heads up of what to bring, if you have access to it...

- Bring a wig to work on! If you don't have one, maybe someone might have an extra one. If you have more than one, bring them all!
- bring a comb, preferably finer toothed...
- bring a brush: a paddle brush or one with soft bristles is best..
- bring a spray shine type product
- bring paper and a pen
- bring a small towel

I don't know if we have good access to a wash basin, but I will let you know the best ways to wash your wigs, and will assess them on an individual basis.
Such fun times ahead!

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions!
Until then,
Julie

Baring it all, trash art, PVC nipples and other good things

FACT OF LIFE #188701:

I interviewed Michael McCarthy and the Glam Gam girls (Sarah and Julie — Hi!) about their latest NEKID/Almost always NEKID offering this weekend, the Burlesque show Bare Necessities.

Kox & Kuntz: Some would call this (along with other burlesque shows) "low-brow" art or trash aesthetics. Thoughts?
Glam Gam Productions: What's wrong with trash? Actually, a lot of our props, set and even some of our performers were found in the trash! One of our main goals is to deconstruct taboos that surround nudity and sexuality. We believe the human body is a beautiful thing and is not something to hide away. Presenting our ideas and bodies through the art of burlesque we also want to promote healthy sex and positive body image, by portraying people of all shapes and sizes in many different situations. Often low-brow artists are self-taught, or possess a natural talent. Many members of our troupe found themselves unsatisfied in their structured training of fine arts. Burlesque allows us to connect more personally with our audience, as we are presenting an idea in a more gritty and tangible way.

K & K: What role does humour play?
GGP: Humour is the backbone of our existence. We spend over half our day laughing, and we want to share that love with everyone.... aAter all ,laughter is the best medicine, and who doesn't like playing doctor? Usually the biggest laugh comes from the audience when Sarah gets naked on stage... and the loudest laugh always comes from Julie.

K & K: Who does what out of the three of you?
GGP: Glam Gam Productions is a collective comprised of Jacks and Jills of all trades. And with the help of our talented and generous friends ,we are able to produce things that we would not have thought possible considering our lack of budget. We do everything from choreography, to making the posters, to set-building, to publicity work, to seducing audience members. We're honestly all just down-to-earth, hard-working people with a love for a good ol' fashioned naughty performance! But of course we all have our super powers…. Sarah "SweetCheeks" Murphy, for example, can choreograph such hot moves that by the end of the dance you won't even notice your wallet has gone missing. Julie "Jugzz" Paquet holds the current world record for going from fully clothed to completely nude in 0.28 seconds. Michael “Manwich” McCarthy works wonders with the power tools, but for some reason he just can’t seem to screw straight!

Plays for three nights at Café Cléo. More info.

thanks GGP.

Is Montreal ready for its close-up?

As many who have been following the blog know, Kox & Kuntz has paid particular attention to the Quartier des spectacles dossier and how it ultimately impacts the cultural institution that is Café Cléopatre. The stripper bar and the community burlesque stage upstairs were at risk of being ousted from plans to give the red-light district a facelift, but now, it seems as though karma is a bitch and that bitch's name is The ECONOMY. Angus Developers have halted contruction on the area, opting for the leftover pilons and contructions dirt look that is so very chic in architecture these days. The Gazette says it is only 15% complete, and that there are already  fancy lights! "700 red sidewalk spots creating a red-carpet effect and echoing the marquee lights of area theatres, facade lighting for the Musée, Monument National and other buildings, and La Vitrine, an interactive wall of lights spelling in letters and signs that it's showtime in the city."

SOUNDS SHOW-OFFY TO ME.

And the lighting director for the Quartier is quoted as saying "The more you create a nighttime atmosphere, the more people will go out,'' he said. Well, I like to see my nighttime atmosphere light up with sex workers, seedy joints and whores. Call me carazay!
