Hello, rap ladies

The Well Versed has a great profile on female rappers, to help the masses go beyond Nicki Minaj and her full-tittied/mostly assed peers. Here in Canada we have Eternia, who is ok for a white girl (that's called a joke, please don't call the innernet police on me). But if you tread a little farther south, you'll find someone a little easier on the eyes. Invincible is fresh, best and ready to rap-press. (I CAN RAP TOO GUISE.) Download singles off the Well Versed article.

Anti-Bullying Awareness week

It's Anti-Bullying Awareness week.

I know it's been done to tears, but can I just say one more thing about this It Gets Better project? I guess maybe it's been said before, but I'll just say it, ok?

I feel like this thing rings false. It's kind of forcing us to come out all super duper happy-like, with our jazz hands in tow, and making us act as though LOOK THOMAS AND JANE! EVERYTHING IS FUCKING FANTASTIC! The thing is, though, it's, like, really hard to be a grown-up. Paying bills sucks. Stress sucks. Love hurts. Being jaded is easy. Feeling ugly/fat/nerdy doesn't go away with time. It might lessen, and you might spend most of your time liking yourself, but there's still that tinge of low self esteem. I don't know. Maybe I can't speak for everyone tho. Look at this guy! His name is Tornwordo.

Because when you grow up, you can move away and be gay somewhere else

Also, this dude is a jerk. But we already knew that. Fiddy, on Twitter, "urged gay men to commit suicide." 50 Cent's anti-gay Twitter rant. Two young women, dating each other, killed themselves. The details are murky. Dan Savage tells the young how it will get better and how it did for him and his partner. Mind you, that is with the help of affluence and mainstream acceptance. But I applaud the effort. If it leads to one less suicide or a little bit less heart heaviness, then his viral video campaign will have been worth it. Vigils are planned in major cities (probably where they will serve the least). Montreal's is this Wednesday, Oct 6, 8 pm at Parc de l'Espoir near Beaudry Metro on Ste-Catherine's. (Gay blog source)

United States of Dead Youth

The suicides need to stop. An organizer from P10, a youth organization based here in the city, mentioned on FB that this entire discourse on bullying leading to suicide is a way to move the conversation around and away from the fact that this violence is very explicitly targeted at people moving beyond socially prescribed gender norms. Contact P10 here. They help the youth folk. Here's a message from Sarah Silverman.
